Bouts of sleeplessness are common for all of us. Sometimes it is for biological, or emotional, or just plain physical reasons. But I’m learning that a major cause for sleeplessness may be much more spiritual than we realize. The challenging struggle of sleepless nights need not be a statement of reality. Night time should not be the time for nightmares and restlessness.
Have you noticed that God created darkness before light and both were declared good?
Many of God’s answers to my questions come at night or when I’m in the quietness of a long drive. Historically, I used to get quite frustrated when I lay awake at night. Now I use that time more profitably in contemplative study. How often do you get inspirations during the night? Night time was designed by God to be His prime time to reveal Himself.* When my brain, soul and body are quiet, God’s Spirit is able to speak to my spirit. My nighttime’s have become God’s sanctuary for my spirit to recall and review, to bring the right things about life into focus In Psalm 16:7 David penned “I will bless the Lord, Who has given me counsel; yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.”
The enemy will fight vigorously to dominate your night watches. He knows that is prime time for Almighty Spirit to minister to your spirit. Revelation and insight are products of that spiritual ministry. How do you spend your time prior to sleeping? Do you prepare your soul to submit to your spirit? Don’t relinquish your night watches to the enemy. Don’t let that time be a war zone.
May you be blessed with godly purpose and peace that protects from the enemy who is a pest during the night.
You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, … nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness… Psalm 91:5-6
